What are my Braces Options?

We offer several options for straightening your smile, including both metal and ceramic braces. Both of these options are American-made, durable, and can help gradually move your teeth into proper alignment. The material the brackets are made from differs between metal and ceramic, however; metal braces use brackets made of stainless steel, while ceramic braces use something called polycrystalline alumina that can either be clear or match the color of your teeth. Dr. Nguyen can help you determine the best option for your specific orthodontic needs and preferences.

Braces Treatment Process

Step 1
1

Consultation

The first step is coming in to determine whether or not you’re a candidate for braces and if so, what option is the best fit for you. Dr. Nguyen will examine your teeth and provide a recommendation for treatment. You’ll have a 3D scan taken so we can get to work creating your braces.

Step 2
2

Placing Your Braces

Next, you’ll come back to have your braces placed. Dr. Nguyen will clean your teeth first to remove any bacteria before attaching the brackets to your teeth.

Step 3
2

Maintenance

You'll come back for a visit every 1.5 to 2 months so we can adjust your braces and monitor your progress. Each appointment brings you one step closer to realigning your teeth and producing a straighter, healthier smile you can enjoy with confidence. Your total treatment time will depend on your unique orthodontic needs.

01
Am I a good candidate for metal braces?

Dr. Nguyen can help you determine whether or not you’re a good candidate for braces with a consultation and exam. Braces can be used to fix a variety of issues, from spacing or overcrowding issues to overbites, underbites, and even jaw misalignment. Your total treatment time will depend on your specific orthodontic needs.

02
How do braces work?

Both ceramic and metal braces function by exerting pressure on your teeth to gradually move them over time. You’ll come in for adjustments an average of once a month so that we can keep moving your teeth into proper alignment. After adjustments, you may experience slight discomfort, but it should start to feel better over 1-2 days. You and Dr. Nguyen will discuss how long your treatment plan should be to achieve your desired results. When it’s time for your braces to come off, you’ll get to enjoy a brand-new, straighter smile!

03
How do I care for my braces?

Caring for your braces the right way can keep them from getting damaged and ensure you get the best results possible. Take care of your braces by:

  • Brushing your teeth after every meal
  • Flossing at least once a day
  • Being mindful of what foods you eat (extra sticky or chewy foods may break your brackets)
  • Using a Waterpik if you have one to clean around the wires and brackets
  • Using mouthwash once a day to prevent cavities and plaque build-up
